How To Use Blip.fm in 7 Easy Steps

Filed under: Uncategorized — Heidi @ 8:13 pm

In a quest for simplicity, I wanted to avoid signing up to any additional websites.

But Blip.fm is about music.  And I love lots of music.

I’ve seen many friends have Blip.fm accounts.  And there are a lot of people who are following me on Twitter who have Blip.fm accounts, and then bombard their Tweets with yet another song they have added.  I guess that’s what turned me off from the site, but I have finally seen the light.

Many people believe Blip.fm is complicated.  Let’s see if I can simplify it for you:

How to Use Blip.fm in 7 Easy Steps

1. You go to Blip.fm

2. You click “Sign Up” and create your username and password.

3. They ask you for 3 bands or songs so that Blip can give you 30 DJ’s who might have similar music tastes to yours.

4. Start “blipping”.  There is a little box for you to search for artists or song titles.  The system will then search their databases of songs available, and list choices in order of relevence.

5.  You can then “preview” a song before you “blip it”.  Just press preivew, and it will give you a 30 second sample of the song.

6. If that’s the song you want, then you can click “Blip” on the left side of the song.  It will take you to a field that is similar to Twitter, where you can type in 150 characters of text writing whatever you want to say about the song you have chosen.

7. Click “ok”, and you have just “blipped”.

7 Easy Steps.  It looks a lot more complicated than it really is.

That’s the basics of Blip.fm as far as I can tell.

Here’s an example of a blip I did today, for a demo version of one of my favorite Depeche Mode songs:

Pretty cool concept.

There are other features too, where you can give “props” to other DJs on Blip.fm.  You can add favorites, and you can even embed songs just as I have done above.

My goal is to provide you with a sampling of some of my absolute favorite songs.

Only the best of the best.

And songs that make me feel powerful emotions, especially laughter and joy.

Don’t you love how powerful music is?

P.S. I think JS should get a Blip.fm account, and post his public album songs up there. Wouldn’t that be neat to be a DJ to songs that haven’t been officially released yet?
